An Open Letter to My Daughter

img_9701Harper Allie, my darling Soups,

Being your mother has brought more joy to my life, than I ever imagined I’d be worthy of receiving.

I want you to know a few things.

I want you to know, that I will support you no matter what you decide to do with your life.

If you become a doctor or an actress, a ballerina or a business executive.

I will support you.

I will be there to console you if your plans don’t work out the way you’d hoped, and I will most assuredly celebrate with you when they do.

I will be there for every art show, dance recital, science fair, soccer game, award night, and graduation.

I will support whomever you choose to love, so long as they are good to you.

I will dance with you in excitement when you get engaged, and I will help you plan the dream wedding you’ve always wanted.

I will cry my eyes out the day I see you in your wedding dress for the first time.

I will love your babies unconditionally; if you decide to have them, and I will be understanding should you decide that children aren’t for you.

Whatever you do, whoever you go with, be kind.

Always.

There are few things more important in this life than kindness.

There is one thing I will ask of you. Wherever you go in this life, take me with you.

Keep me in your heart like I keep you in mine.

Take me to the places that bring you the most peace. Show me the people who bring incredible joy to your heart.

Work hard, and know that I am always in your corner.

I need you to know that I am eternally grateful for what you have done for my life, simply by being a part of it.

I’m not just going to love you for the rest of my life, I’m going to love you, for the rest of yours.

Infinite X’s & O’s,

Mama

“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.” – The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
